Tamale Teaching Hospital achieves 28% reduction in maternal mortality

Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has reported a significant 28% decrease in maternal mortality rates, marking a noteworthy achievement in the region's healthcare. This decline is attributed to comprehensive health initiatives aimed at enhancing maternal and child health services, alongside improved access to skilled medical personnel. The hospital has implemented innovative strategies, including community outreach programs and educational campaigns, which have effectively raised awareness about maternal health issues.

Dr. Abass Adam, the Medical Director of TTH, highlighted that these efforts have not only increased the number of expectant mothers seeking care but have also fostered a safer environment for childbirth. He emphasized the importance of early antenatal visits and skilled attendance during delivery as critical factors contributing to this positive trend.

Despite this progress, Dr. Adam acknowledged ongoing challenges such as resource limitations and the need for further improvements in healthcare infrastructure. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about sustaining these gains through continued collaboration with stakeholders and empowering local communities to prioritize maternal health. This achievement represents a pivotal step toward reducing preventable deaths among mothers in Northern Ghana.
