Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He condemned their decision to impose a GHC1 per litre levy on fuel.
Aboagye called the NDC government "clueless" and "incompetent." He described them as "arrogant braggarts" during an interview on Peace FM in Accra. He claimed that the John Dramani Mahama administration lacks governance knowledge and deceived voters to gain power.
The GHC1 levy is part of the Energy Sector Amendment Bill. Parliament passed this bill on June 3, 2025. The minority caucus protested by walking out, calling the timing "insensitive."
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson defended the levy. He noted that the energy sector has a significant debt of $3.1 billion as of March 2025. Dr. Forson assured lawmakers that recent gains in the cedi's value would neutralize fuel price impacts at the pump.
