NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey criticized the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He said they are desperate to claim credit for policies they did not create.
In an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express, he dismissed NPP's recent claims. They tried to associate themselves with the government's Gold Board initiative. Kwetey called their behavior dishonest and cowardly.
He highlighted that this initiative brought in $2.6 billion in just four months. “Annualise that and see the amount of foreign exchange,” he stated. This amount exceeds what cocoa syndication or the IMF program could provide annually.
Kwetey believes the gold-for-forex initiative is a game-changer for Ghana’s economy. He expressed frustration over the NPP trying to take credit for its success.
He pointed out that the NPP never had a gold board. They lacked the creativity to purchase gold for forex earnings, he argued.
Kwetey emphasized that there is a critical distinction between a gold reserve and their current initiative. “We are not talking about gold reserve; two separate realities,” he explained.
He noted that it is the inflow of dollars into the economy that matters. This liquidity supports transactions and stabilizes the Cedi, providing economic relief.
Kwetey accused the NPP of trying to benefit from successes they did not create. “They are desperate to take credit for appreciation of the Cedi,” he said.
However, he criticized them for avoiding responsibility for negative issues like galamsey and dumsor. He described them as cowards wanting to ride on positive developments without accountability.
Kwetey asserted that politics should be based on truth, not desperation or opportunism. The current NDC administration focuses on delivering results rather than seeking applause.
He concluded by stating that credit belongs to those who work hard, not those who failed and now want to rewrite history.
