'Removal of Charlotte Osei was wrong', says Minority’s Legal Adviser

John Darko, the Member of Parliament for Suame, has criticized the 2018 removal of Charlotte Osei. He is also the Legal Counsel to the Parliamentary Minority.

In an interview on Channel One TV on May 5, 2025, Mr. Darko expressed his opposition to this decision. He stated that he believes her removal was unjust. “What happened to Charlotte Osei was wrong,” he said.

He emphasized that the tribunal's verdict did not reflect procedural fairness. Osei and her deputies were dismissed based on a committee's recommendations. This committee was chaired by then Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.

The panel cited alleged procurement infractions as reasons for their report.

Mr. Darko distinguished Osei’s case from the current suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He urged people not to confuse the two situations. “This one is going up and beyond,” he explained.

He argued that Torkornoo's inquiry should be assessed on its own legal merits. It should not be seen as partisan retribution against her.
