NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey believes the NPP should stay in opposition. He says they need a “rebirth of their soul” to return to power.
Kwetey spoke on PM Express on JoyNews Tuesday night. He criticized the NPP, calling them opportunistic and dishonest. He stated they lack the moral compass needed for governance.
“They must appreciate that politics must be based on truth,” he declared.
His comments responded to the NPP's attempts to claim credit for recent economic gains. Specifically, he mentioned the appreciation of the Ghana cedi without acknowledging their failures.
Kwetey described the NPP as desperate for credit. “They are cowards who want to ride on something positive,” he said. They avoid responsibility for issues like galamsey and dumsor.
He highlighted the government’s gold-for-oil initiative as transformative. This initiative has brought $2.6 billion into Ghana within four months.
“This is far more than what cocoa syndication or IMF programs would provide,” Kwetey noted.
He dismissed NPP claims that this initiative was originally theirs. “NPP didn’t have a Gold Board or creativity for forex earnings,” he said.
Kwetey emphasized that inflow of dollars is crucial, not just gold reserves. He accused the opposition of wanting glory without accepting failure.
“You can’t just show up when the sun is shining,” he remarked. The NPP's behavior shows a lack of integrity, according to him.
“Until they reflect and renew their soul, they are unfit to return to power,” Kwetey insisted.
His remarks come as the NDC pushes bold economic policies. They aim to distance themselves from past mismanagement and redefine Ghana’s growth narrative.
Kwetey believes progress relies on principles rooted in freedom and justice. “You cannot build a strong nation on lies and cowardice,” he concluded.
The NPP must remain in opposition until they learn these lessons, he stated.
