120 days: Mahama has done very well but must sustain it – Prof Adei

Renowned economist and governance expert, Professor Stephen Adei, praised President John Dramani Mahama. He called Mahama's start to his administration impressive. This follows the completion of a 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.

In an interview with JoyNews on May 7, Prof. Adei stated that “anybody who is objective would say he has done very well.” He recognized significant achievements in a short time. These include policy reversals, government downsizing, and reopening long-demanded criminal investigations.

However, he cautioned against premature celebration. He urged Ghanaians and political commentators not to overpraise the administration too soon. “We must be very careful over praising John in 120 days,” Prof. Adei said.

He recalled that during Akufo-Addo's first term, expectations were high but later dashed. He noted that Akufo-Addo’s second term did not perform well.

Prof. Adei emphasized that while Mahama’s current performance is commendable, consistency matters most. It is important to correct any emerging flaws as well. “We hope he will be able to continue and sustain it,” he added.
