Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the MP for Assin South, expressed his happiness. He is pleased that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received more votes than he did in the constituency.
Fordjour said this was his goal, and achieving it felt fulfilling.
His comments followed Dr. Bawumia's response to claims about his Muslim faith. Some suggested it contributed to the party's election loss.
On April 23, at the NPP headquarters, Dr. Bawumia began a Thank You Tour. He called those claims baseless and urged Ghanaians to focus on facts instead of propaganda.
Dr. Bawumia noted that he received more votes than Rev. Fordjour in Assin South.
Rev. Fordjour received 14,899 votes while Dr. Bawumia secured 17,617 votes.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Naket Kasiebo, Fordjour reacted positively to this outcome. He stated he took no offense and promised to support Dr. Bawumia’s victory.
“I was happy Dr. Bawumia garnered more votes than me,” he said. “That was my goal, and I’m glad it happened.”
He explained that his vote count dropped due to an independent candidate who received about 10,000 votes.
