Assembly Members in Atwima Mponua District want President Mahama to nominate Sakina Oforiwaa as District Chief Executive.
They have threatened to resist any other nominee for the position.
Atwima Mponua and Asante Mampong are the only assemblies in Ashanti region without nominations.
On May 9, 2025, thirty-four assembly members petitioned President Mahama. They requested Sakina Oforiwaa, a former assemblywoman, be nominated for DCE.
The number of supporters has now increased to 40. This means over two-thirds of the 50 assembly members support her nomination. She is one of three candidates shortlisted.
The petition states, “We express our unwavering support for Hon. Sakina Oforiwaa as DCE.”
It highlights her integrity, commitment, and leadership qualities. She engages with traditional authorities and community groups effectively.
Sakina has supported local development projects significantly. She donated 30 motorbikes to assembly members and provided free meals during elections.
Assembly members praised her collaborative spirit and dedication to inclusive leadership. They believe she can foster unity and accelerate development in the district.
They reminded President Mahama of his promise to appoint more women in government. Appointing Sakina would help meet this goal while boosting local development.
“We appeal to Your Excellency to expedite her nomination,” they said. They are ready to support her appointment once nominated.
Donfeh Emmanuel represents Ntobroso on the assembly council. He stated that most assembly members back Madam Oforiwaa’s nomination at a press conference.
He noted that many cheered for her when nominees were mentioned. While there are other choices, most prefer Madam Sakina.
The delay in announcing a DCE nominee is affecting district development significantly. The lack of leadership hinders governance and project coordination.
Justice Nkrumah Boateng, Presiding Member of the local assembly, echoed these concerns at the press conference. He said many government programs have stalled due to the absence of a DCE.
Members of the United Cadres Front also urged President Mahama to speed up Sakina's appointment as DCE.
Executives from this group held a press conference at Anyinamso Number 2. They warned they might protest if their preferred candidate is not appointed.
Isaac Ampaabeng, Communications Director for the group, believes Madam Oforiwaa is qualified for the role.
