Tensions are rising between Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. This situation is now gaining international attention.
Here are the key points:
1. Ofori-Atta Declared a Fugitive
Ofori-Atta missed a crucial deadline to appear on June 2, 2025. The OSP has officially declared him a fugitive from justice.
2. No Negotiations Allowed
The OSP stated that Ofori-Atta tried to influence the investigation from abroad. They firmly rejected this attempt. “A suspect cannot dictate how investigations proceed,” they said.
3. In-Person Appearance Required
The OSP insists that Ofori-Atta must appear in person. They are not accepting virtual meetings or statements through lawyers. “We want him here physically, and we insist on it,” they emphasized.
4. Interpol Involvement
With no compliance from Ofori-Atta, the OSP is seeking Interpol's help. They have initiated steps for an Interpol red notice to locate and arrest him globally.
5. Missed Promises
Ofori-Atta had promised to return to Ghana in May due to health issues. He did not keep this promise, leading to escalating consequences.
6. OSP's Firm Stance
This development shows a change in approach by the OSP. They are determined that this case will not fade away, pursuing Ofori-Atta both at home and abroad.
