President John Dramani Mahama’s administration has withdrawn seven major legal cases, raising concerns about political interference and selective justice.
Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine insists the cases lacked merit, but critics argue the move weakens Ghana’s anti-corruption efforts.
The dismissed cases include charges against former BoG Deputy Governor Johnson Asiama, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa, and ex-COCOBOD CEO Dr. Stephen Opuni alongside Seidu Agongo.
Also cleared were former SSNIT boss Dr. Ernest Thompson, ex-Works and Housing Minister Collins Dauda, and NDC’s Ofosu Ampofo. Charges against activists Oliver Barker-Vormawor and Ama Governor were also dropped.
The mass case withdrawals have sparked public backlash, with many questioning the government’s commitment to accountability and justice.
