NPP flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong has made a controversial claim, stating that Ghana is unlikely to elect a Muslim as president.
Speaking to legal professionals in Kumasi while seeking support for his second bid as NPP's flagbearer, Agyapong argued that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s religious background contributed to the party’s electoral defeat.
He alleged that some Christian leaders actively campaigned against Bawumia, urging their congregations not to vote for a Muslim leader.
Agyapong warned that if the NPP re-elects Bawumia as its candidate, the issue will persist.
However, several attendees dismissed his remarks as divisive and unfounded, insisting that religious affiliation does not determine electoral outcomes in Ghana.
