There are tensions among National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in Asawase. This follows the nomination of Ben Abdallah Alhassan as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong Municipality.
Some party members support the appointment. However, a group of aggrieved NDC grassroots has rejected it publicly. President John Dramani Mahama appointed Ben Abdallah on May 6. He is currently the party’s Election and Research Director in Asawase.
Before the nomination, divisions emerged over who should be chosen. One faction supported Faisal Dauda, the current Constituency Chairman. Another faction backed nominee Ben Abdallah, who is aligned with the local Member of Parliament.
On May 7, at a press conference, the aggrieved faction expressed disappointment with the President's decision. They insisted that Faisal Dauda was the rightful choice for MCE. Suleiman Massawud spoke for the group and said they seek to provide insight into their views.
He noted that Faisal Dauda has served diligently as treasurer without negativity surrounding his position. Massawud added that choosing Ben Abdallah over Dauda shows disrespect to party members.
Meanwhile, some constituency executives support the President’s choice. They call for party unity and express confidence in Ben Abdallah's abilities. One executive thanked President Mahama for his leadership and thoughtful decision.
They believe this appointment reflects Mahama's commitment to inclusive governance and community development.
