The Attorney-General has withdrawn all charges against Dr. Ernest Thompson, former Director-General of SSNIT, and three others in a case involving alleged financial impropriety.

A nolle prosequi notice, filed at the High Court (Criminal Division) on January 7, officially ends the trial against Thompson, John Hagan Mensah, Caleb Kwaku Afaglo, and Peter Hayibor.

Signed by Director of Public Prosecutions Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, the notice cited legal provisions for the withdrawal.

The case, initiated under the previous administration, accused the defendants of inflating SSNIT’s $34 million Operational Business Suite (OBS) project to $66 million.

The prosecution had called 10 witnesses before the court ordered the accused to open their defense.

With the charges dropped, the accused are now cleared.
