Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has dismissed accusations by the Minority in Parliament that the Attorney General is overstepping his constitutional mandate by directing investigations, raids, and arrests of former government officials.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday, March 24, Dr. Srem-Sai insisted that the Attorney General’s role is not limited to legal advisory duties but extends to investigative and prosecutorial functions.
“The AG is not a neutral observer. The law empowers the AG to investigate and prosecute, with agencies established to facilitate these functions,” he stated.
He urged critics to familiarize themselves with the legal framework, asserting that the ongoing probes into past officials are lawful and within the Attorney General’s constitutional authority.
