Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reassured Ghanaians that Morocco remains safe, dismissing viral claims of violence against Africans in the North African country.
He emphasized that there is no cause for alarm, especially for Ghanaians residing in Morocco.
In a social media post, Ablakwa revealed that he held discussions with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Imane Ouaadil, who affirmed that reports of a recent massacre were false.
He clarified that the circulating footage actually depicted a 2022 border incident, which, though tragic, was investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities, with no Ghanaian casualties recorded.
The assurance comes ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Madagascar in Morocco.
Additionally, Ablakwa announced that Morocco has doubled scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180 and that both nations are set to finalize a visa waiver agreement.
Ghana and Morocco have also pledged to enhance cooperation in agribusiness, tourism, and security, further strengthening bilateral relations.
