President John Dramani Mahama has set up a special Anti-Flood Taskforce to combat Ghana’s recurring flooding, particularly in Accra, which has led to loss of lives and property.
Announcing the initiative, Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe, who chairs the task force, emphasized the government’s commitment to minimizing the devastating impact of floods.
The team includes key officials such as Legal Counsel to the President Marietta Brew (Secretary), Water Resources Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, and Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim.
Their initial efforts include aerial reconnaissance to assess flood-prone areas and immediate desilting of major drains in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces.
The task force aims to implement long-term strategies to address the country’s flooding challenges.
