Adenta Kumi’s wife loses pregnancy following NIB dawn raid

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, confirmed a tragic incident. The wife of former Adenta parliamentary candidate Alfred Ababio Kumi suffered a miscarriage. This followed a traumatic dawn raid by state security operatives.

The raid occurred on Friday, May 23. About eight armed men, believed to be from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), were involved. Mr. Kodua described the situation as deeply upsetting during an interview on Joy FM.

“I have spoken with Kumi’s wife, and sadly, it is true,” he said. “She suffered a miscarriage amidst the trauma. It’s a heartbreaking situation.”

Kumi’s mother, Nana Ama Owusu, shared details on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. She recounted how armed men stormed their home around 5:30 a.m. Most were in plain clothes; only one wore a police uniform.

“Two claimed to be from the CID,” she said. “Before I could speak, one pushed me aside.” They forced open the gate using their guns. Kumi’s wife panicked and struggled to open it when one officer fired a warning shot.

According to Nana Ama, the pregnant woman fled in fear and tripped. She started bleeding and was four months pregnant at that time.

“The shock and fall were too much,” Nana Ama tearfully recalled. “She began bleeding heavily, and later we learned she had lost the baby.” The family rushed her for urgent medical care after the incident.

Alfred Kumi's arrest may relate to his comments about Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's removal petition. However, police have not confirmed this motive yet.

The NPP condemned the raid and accused the government of intimidation tactics against opposition members. Party officials are seeking accountability and answers regarding this incident.
