Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has revealed a serious issue. Former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahen, led a scheme. This scheme caused a financial loss of $7 million to the state.
Dr. Ayine explained that the scheme involved illegally diverting state funds. These funds were used for personal and private purposes. He made this disclosure during a press briefing in Accra on April 30.
The Attorney General confirmed that 11 criminal charges have been filed. The charges are against Adu Boahen, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two accomplices. They include stealing, defrauding by false pretenses, and money laundering.
Adu Boahen and his wife were arrested on March 20 and 21. Investigations showed they used diverted funds to finance their businesses. The prosecution claims they exploited their public office for personal gain.
The case will proceed in court soon as the state seeks justice. Dr. Ayine stated that thorough investigations uncovered this $7 million loss. He confirmed that charges have been filed against Adu Boahen, his wife, and Mildred Donkor, a former employee of UMB.
