Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has linked the recent cholera outbreak in Efutu to the closure of public toilets along the coast.
He claims that after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost power, some individuals locked up these facilities, leaving fisherfolk with no proper sanitation options.
Addressing Parliament, he stressed that cholera does not discriminate by political affiliation and urged authorities to reopen the toilets to curb the spread of the disease.
Efutu has recorded 18 cases, the highest in the Central Region.
Afenyo-Markin also urged the Health Minister to prioritize cholera vaccinations in Efutu, questioning why Agona West, with fewer cases, is receiving vaccines while Efutu awaits approval.
