Afenyo-Markin commends NDC for rebranding efforts

Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, praised the NDC's rebranding. He urged the NPP to also rebrand to regain voter trust for the 2028 elections.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Afenyo-Markin highlighted party identity in Ghanaian politics. He said it often matters more than individual candidates.

“When going into a presidential election, it is not about the individual,” he stated. He noted that independent candidates often struggle due to party branding.

He discussed the NPP's legacy and how voters connect with its history. “People know the NPP tradition – UP, PP, PFP, and now the NPP,” he explained. They recognize contributions from leaders like Kufuor and Akufo-Addo.

Afenyo-Markin recalled his university days when associating with the NDC was difficult. “If you were contesting for SRC or hall president and someone said you were NDC, that was it,” he said.

He commended the NDC for addressing this image issue through outreach programs. “Today, let me commend the NDC,” he remarked. Their efforts have helped students feel proud to identify as NDC members.

He noted that perceptions of academia favoring the NPP have changed over time. “We took it for granted that academia belonged to us,” he admitted. Now, many professionals openly support their parties.

Afenyo-Markin mentioned that the NDC has improved its presence in legal circles too. “I once gave an interview about how people believed almost every lawyer was NPP,” he shared.

These changes should serve as lessons for the opposition NPP. “In Parliament, we must take note,” he advised. Engaging youth and professionals is crucial for rebuilding trust.

He concluded by urging the NPP to prepare for 2028 elections. “As part of our rebranding, we must give people confidence in our party,” he stated. This will help position them for victory in 2028.
