Ahiagbah: NPP governed in Ghana’s interest, not with ill intent

Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), defended the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration. He stated that all major policy decisions were made in Ghana's best interest. These decisions were not made with ill intent, he emphasized.

Ahiagbah responded to criticisms about the NPP government's economic management. This includes initiatives like the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). He noted that the previous administration acted responsibly under tough circumstances.

“The record of the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia era is our legacy,” he said. “We will run on that.” He acknowledged that some decisions, like the DDEP, were painful but necessary for stability.

He described the DDEP as a difficult matter. Early discussions were tough, and no one took those decisions lightly. However, he believes they were necessary despite the pain involved.

Ahiagbah urged the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to build on economic progress. He hopes they will continue improving rather than reversing key reforms.

He reaffirmed that the NPP intends to campaign on its record. Ahiagbah is confident Ghanaians will appreciate their performance over time amid challenges.
