Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), praised Kennedy Agyapong. Agyapong is a former Member of Parliament for Assin Central. He decided to withdraw from the party’s ‘Thank You Tour.’
Agyapong announced his withdrawal on Wednesday, April 30. He cited security threats to his supporters as the reason. This followed a violent incident in Kumasi involving a stabbing.
The victim was a student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He had been hired by Agyapong’s team to perform at the event. The altercation started when armed men took money meant for performers.
These men were believed to be affiliated with the NPP. The situation escalated, leading to gunshots and one performer being stabbed.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Ahiagbah called Agyapong’s withdrawal "noble." He said it was made for party unity.
Ahiagbah noted that this decision would help reduce tensions. It would also refocus attention on thanking Ghanaians for their support despite losing in the 2024 elections.
He commended Agyapong for prioritizing party unity over personal presence at the tour.
