Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has pledged to address conflicts between Members of Parliament (MPs) and Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee on January 21, he emphasized his commitment to fostering harmony for effective governance.
Drawing on his 12-year experience as a Parliamentary Whip, Ahmed vowed to ensure mutual respect and open communication between MPs and MMDCEs. He highlighted past incidents where some MMDCEs reportedly sabotaged MPs, even withholding their share of the common fund, and warned against such practices.
Ahmed further assured the creation of a common platform for MPs and MMDCEs to engage regularly, promoting understanding and cooperation to advance district and municipal development.
