Akonta Mining Menace: Mahama will deal with Wontumi and his ilk decisively- Sammy Gyamfi assures

Sammy Gyamfi is the Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He recently stated that the day of reckoning has arrived for Chairman Wontumi.

In a social media post, he mentioned that John Dramani Mahama will take action against Bernard Antwi Boasiako. This includes those who have harmed forest reserves and water bodies.

Gyamfi shared a documentary showing how Akonta Mining, owned by Wontumi, has damaged water bodies and forests in Samreboi.

He wrote, “The day of reckoning for Chairman Wontumi and his ilk has come. @JDMahama means business. Together with well-meaning Ghanaians, we shall win the fight against illegal mining and preserve our environment.”

His comments followed an order from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to revoke Akonta Mining's license.

At a press conference on April 21, the minister explained that Akonta Mining has taken over the Aboi forest reserve. They are selling concessions to illegal miners who pay weekly royalties after purchasing these concessions.
