President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed a petition by Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, citing a lack of merit.

Following consultations with the Council of State, the petition was deemed unsupported by credible evidence and consistent with the Chief Justice’s lawful administrative duties under the Courts Act.

The President criticized the premature public circulation of the petition, violating Article 146(8) of the Constitution, which mandates confidentiality in such proceedings.

Describing the petition as "frivolous and vexatious," he emphasized the need to uphold judicial independence and cautioned against baseless allegations that undermine public trust in the judiciary.

This decision reinforces the importance of evidence and constitutional adherence in addressing concerns about public officials.
