Align central govt and DACF projects to avoid waste – Adjei-Mensah Korsah to Gov’t

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the MP for Techiman South, has raised concerns. He worries about possible duplication between government initiatives and district assembly projects. This follows new directives on the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

The government announced that each district assembly will receive at least GH₵25 million in 2025. This funding aims to support local development under the DACF. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson explained how the funds will be allocated.

The allocations include 25% for a model market, 10% for health facilities, and another 10% for educational infrastructure. Additionally, there is 10% for potable water projects and school furniture. Five percent is set aside for administrative expenses of the assemblies.

Furthermore, 20% of the funds will complete existing projects under various development authorities. On June 3, during an interview with Citi FM's Eyewitness News, Korsah emphasized the need for better coordination.

He stated that it’s crucial to avoid overlapping responsibilities in development projects. "We must ensure there is no clash between central government actions and assembly plans," he said. He noted that both levels of government are trying to provide similar services.

Korsah expressed concern about potential duplications in funding from different sources. "How do we regulate this to prevent duplication?" he questioned.
