Amenfi East NDC boils over unauthorised appointments

Nana Kofi Atokyi, the Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Amenfi East, has issued a strong statement. He condemns secret and unauthorized appointments made in the constituency. These actions occurred without consulting key party executives.

The statement was directed to the Western Regional Minister and NDC Regional Executives. It expressed frustration over two specific appointments: a Municipal representative to the Regional Lands Commission Board and a Municipal Director for the Youth Employment Agency (YEA). Mr. Atokyi claims these were done without regard for party structures.

He noted that neither he nor other core constituency executives were informed. This includes the Constituency Secretary, Women’s Organizer, Youth Organizer, Treasurer, Organizer, Communications Officer, and Zongo Caucus Coordinator. He called this a “complete disrespect” to party hierarchy.

The first issue mentioned was McLean's appointment as Amenfi East representative on the Regional Lands Commission Board. Mr. Atokyi contacted Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Raymond Nana Ebbah about this nomination. The MCE admitted it was his personal decision.

However, the Regional Minister disagreed with this action. He stated such appointments should involve consultation with party leadership and constituency executives.

The second issue involved Mr. Alidu Dramani's appointment as Municipal Director of YEA. Mr. Atokyi found this surprising and disheartening. Earlier instructions from regional party authorities had stated no one should be appointed until broader consultations were completed.

Despite this directive, Mr. Dramani reportedly took office without clearance from higher authorities on orders from the MCE. Attempts by Mr. Atokyi to alert both the Regional Minister and Regional Chairman led to instructions to suspend Dramani's appointment until further notice.

However, it is alleged that Mr. Dramani defied this directive and assumed his role anyway. The statement also pointed out rising tensions among youth groups in the constituency who are angry about what they call "malicious appointments." They have threatened demonstrations in response.

Mr. Atokyi claimed that affiliates of the MCE have insulted and threatened constituency executives online, particularly on a platform called “Asikuma.” He cited an incident where the MCE allegedly insulted the Women’s Organizer of their party.

In conclusion, Mr. Atokyi urged intervention from the Regional Minister and NDC Executives at all levels to restore order in Amenfi East Constituency. He acknowledged that his press release might worsen tensions but emphasized he is acting for the good of the party.
