Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has pleaded not guilty. He faces charges of causing financial loss to the state and misusing public funds. He also faces conspiracy charges.
His plea was entered on Monday, May 26. He had missed two previous court dates due to medical emergencies.
Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is on trial with Solomon Asamoah, a former CEO of GIIF. They are accused of transferring $2 million in public funds to a private account. This transfer was linked to a proposed Sky Train project.
The prosecution claims this transaction lacked proper authorization and due diligence. They argue it caused significant financial loss to the state.
Both defendants deny any wrongdoing. They plan to present a full defense as the trial continues.
