Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko has urged the government to enhance transparency in public spending, particularly regarding cost-saving measures.
Speaking on the Oxfam Tax Dialogue on March 18, he commended President Mahama’s decision to cut ministerial appointments from 86 to 60 but stressed the need for a clear breakdown of the financial savings.
He argued that showing how tax revenues directly fund infrastructure and public services would boost compliance and trust.
Nyarko insisted that publicly tracking and utilizing the savings from a leaner government would discourage future administrations from inflating ministerial numbers, ensuring continued fiscal responsibility.
