Appiah-Kubi warns AG against prejudicing court in $7M cyber fraud case

Legal practitioner Andy Appiah-Kubi has criticized Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine for revealing evidence in an ongoing $7 million cybersecurity fraud case involving former NSB Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

Speaking on TV3, Appiah-Kubi cautioned that publicly discussing case details before court proceedings could compromise due process and the accused’s rights.

Dr. Ayine, during a press briefing, alleged that Adu-Boahene diverted GH¢27.1 million meant for a cyber defence project, transferring funds from the NSB’s account to a private company.

Appiah-Kubi argued that such disclosures should be limited to the charges rather than evidence.

However, MP Fred Agbenyo defended the Attorney General, asserting that public accountability necessitates transparency. He maintained that corruption has long plagued Ghana, and citizens deserve updates on investigations.

While critics fear potential prejudice, Agbenyo emphasized that only the courts can determine guilt, not public statements.
