Tension erupted in Asante Mampong on Thursday when irate NDC supporters stormed the party's constituency office, vandalized furniture, and set items ablaze in protest.
Their anger stems from reports suggesting Esther Dwomoh had been nominated for the MCE position — a decision they reject.
The aggrieved youth claim three names had already been vetted and submitted: 2024 parliamentary candidate Yakubu Yakubu, Chairman Mohammed Kamil, and Imoro Iddrisu. They insist the nominee must be chosen from this shortlist, not an outsider.
Despite no official notice from the Presidency, the information sparked outrage.
Police intervened to restore order while fire officers extinguished flames.
No arrests were made.
Constituency Communications Officer Kwaku Bernasko confirmed that calm has since returned, though about 15 chairs were destroyed during the upheaval.
