NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketia has advocated for a name change for Kotoka International Airport, arguing that Major General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka does not deserve the honor.
Speaking on Radio Gold, he asserted that Kotoka played no role in constructing the airport but instead led a coup against Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, who spearheaded its development.
Nketia criticized past governments for lacking the courage to make the change, insisting that the airport should bear a name reflecting Ghana’s true history.
He believes Nkrumah, not a coup leader, should be recognized for his contributions.
The debate over renaming the airport has resurfaced as discussions on Ghana’s historical legacy gain momentum.
