President John Dramani Mahama announced a new penalty for government appointees. Those who did not declare their assets by March 31 will lose three months' salary. This forfeited salary will go to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as Mahama Cares.
The President made this announcement during the launch of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials in Accra on Monday. This initiative aims to improve accountability and ethical governance in the public sector.
“Appointees who missed the deadline will not go unpunished,” President Mahama stated. He explained that their salaries would support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. This fund helps treat chronic illnesses like kidney failure, cancer, and heart disease.
The directive applies to all officials appointed before March 31 who failed to declare their assets. President Mahama stressed that asset declaration is crucial in fighting corruption. It also serves as a test of integrity for public servants.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring public office benefits all Ghanaians, not just individuals. This sanction follows a previous warning that those who do not comply by May 7 will be dismissed from office.
