Asset declaration defaulters should’ve been sacked – Prof. Agyeman-Duah

Governance expert Professor Baffour Agyeman-Duah is disappointed with President John Dramani Mahama. He criticized the decision to sanction appointees who failed to declare their assets. Instead of immediate dismissal, they face a three-month salary forfeiture.

This criticism follows President Mahama’s announcement on May 5. He launched a Code of Conduct for government appointees in Accra. The President warned that those who do not comply by May 7, 2025, will be dismissed. This directive comes after an earlier deadline of March 31 was missed.

In an interview on Eyewitness News with Umaru Sanda Amadu, Prof. Agyeman-Duah expressed his views. He believes those who ignored the President's order should have been fired immediately. "I take presidential directives seriously," he said. "Defying the President's order is an insult."

He acknowledged that the President has discretion in these matters. However, he argued that a firmer approach would have been better. "Dismissals would have shown the seriousness of this action," he added.
