Former Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea, has stirred controversy over President John Mahama’s decision to replace Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as IGP.
He described Dampare as "evil" and claimed that a dossier presented to ex-President Akufo-Addo contained shocking details about the former police chief.
In a strongly worded statement, Atta Akyea questioned why the NDC previously appeared comfortable with Dampare’s leadership before the 2024 elections. He also criticized leadership decisions, using strong metaphors to caution against misplaced trust in governance.
Meanwhile, governance expert Prof. Baffour Agyeman-Duah defended Mahama’s decision, arguing that leadership changes are routine.
However, IMANI Africa’s Franklin Cudjoe criticized the manner of Dampare’s removal, describing the announcement as cold and unprofessional.
The debate over Dampare’s exit continues, with political figures and analysts offering contrasting views on his tenure and the implications of his removal.
