Avoid the gimmickry, and implement policies to sustain the cedi—Ahiagbah to gov’t

Richard Ahiagbah is the Communications Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). He has urged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to find sustainable ways to strengthen the cedi.

Ahiagbah believes that recent improvements in the cedi's value stem from the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government. He emphasizes the need for long-term measures to maintain this strength.

He argues that the current government should not take credit for these gains. In a tweet on X, he stated, “The NDC and government communications are trying to take credit for the Cedi’s performance, but it’s not working despite their efforts.”

Ahiagbah noted that the cedi's performance is partly due to policies from the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration. Factors like rising gold prices and issues with government debt also play a role.

He called on the government to stop gimmicks and focus on effective policies. This will help sustain the appreciation of the cedi.
