Ayine has abandoned what he taught us – Alex Gyamfi

Private legal practitioner Alex Gyamfi criticized Attorney General Dominic Ayine. He accused Ayine of overseeing a legal regime that contradicts human rights values.

Gyamfi spoke during a panel discussion on Asaase Radio’s The Forum. He expressed disappointment in Ayine's silence regarding troubling state actions. These actions have raised concerns in legal and civil society circles.

He said, “If Ayine is AG today, the very things he complained about are happening.” Gyamfi reflected on Ayine's past as a law lecturer and mentor to young lawyers.

He lamented that the Attorney General seems to abandon those principles now that he holds power.

Gyamfi pointed to recent events, such as the raiding of former Bank of Ghana Governor’s home. He also mentioned searches involving Kwabena Adu-Boahene and Ken Ofori-Atta.

“I’m not saying he is responsible,” Gyamfi clarified. “But these actions are happening under his watch.” He noted that Ayine is a principal advisor to the government.

His comments relate to recent law enforcement actions against former public officials. While Gyamfi did not accuse Ayine of direct involvement, he emphasized his constitutional role. As the principal legal advisor, Ayine should embody fairness and restraint in his office.
