Bawumia: Proposed economic reforms will align with IMF programme

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has assured that his economic plans align with Ghana's current International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.

Addressing concerns about potential conflicts with IMF-backed measures, particularly regarding his proposals to scrap the e-levy, introduce a tax amnesty, and implement a flat tax regime, Dr. Bawumia emphasized his commitment to fiscal discipline.

He stated that his policy changes would not disrupt the IMF's objectives, noting that his proposed tax cuts would account for less than 0.5% of GDP, leaving sufficient space to maintain fiscal sustainability.

He also suggested amendments to strengthen the country's Fiscal Responsibility Act.
