Dr. John Osae-Kwapong, a political scientist and fellow at CDD-Ghana, has suggested that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) may re-nominate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their presidential candidate for the next election.
Following Bawumia’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recent polls, Dr. Osae-Kwapong noted that the NPP could reconsider their choice based on how they interpret the results of the 2024 election. He added that if the party believes it was a narrow loss, they might give Bawumia another chance.
However, the NPP could also opt for a new candidate, depending on the opposition’s strategy and the performance of the incoming administration.
He stressed that learning from past mistakes and choosing the right candidate will be crucial for the party’s future success.
