Bawumia should be sober, not preaching theories – Tamakloe

The Ghanaian cedi is stabilizing under the new administration. Critics are comparing this to the previous government's economic management. They particularly highlight former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's tenure.

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, a legal practitioner and Acting CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, challenged Bawumia's recent comments. He spoke on TV3’s KeyPoints about Bawumia dismissing the NDC’s role in the cedi's recovery.

Tameklo stated, “You are known to be an economist.” He reminded Bawumia that President Nana Akufo-Addo brought him in to strengthen the cedi. Tameklo pointed out that during Bawumia's time, the cedi reached GHC17 and inflation peaked at 57%.

He questioned Bawumia’s right to critique the current government on monetary issues. Tameklo said, “With that kind of scorecard, you should be sober.” He advised against immediately promoting new economic theories.

These comments followed Bawumia’s speech at the Young Executive Forum in London. During his Thank You Tour, he claimed the NDC had not implemented any policies contributing to the cedi's gains. “They cannot tell you one that has been implemented,” he insisted.

In response, Tameklo argued that Bawumia is out of touch with Ghana's economic realities. He warned that Bawumia should remain silent and let Ato Forson, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, manage the economy.
