Becoming a DCE drained me, could sustain my family on GH¢5,000 Salary – Duanab

Mr. Thomas Duanab Wuni Pearson was the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi. He recently spoke about the low pay for DCEs in Ghana, especially in rural areas.

He revealed that he earned a monthly salary of GH¢5,000. This amount was not enough to support his family. As a politician, he also had to spend money on various occasions.

Pearson, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, expressed his frustration. He said being a DCE made him financially worse off. The demands from constituents added to his challenges.

Before his political role, he worked for the Ghana Health Service (GHS). He noted that his benefits there were much better than as a DCE. On Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, he stated, “I became worse off by becoming a DCE.”

He emphasized that GH¢5,000 was insufficient for basic needs. It could not even feed his immediate family properly. He felt forced to live on this amount despite rising costs and economic difficulties.

Pearson lamented that rural districts faced significant hardships. He called attention to the terrible remuneration for DCEs in these areas.
