Former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Abena Osei-Asare, has taken aim at President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), questioning the feasibility of his ambitious social intervention programs.
The Atiwa East MP found it contradictory that Mahama described the economy as being in an “intensive care unit” while proposing costly initiatives without a clear funding plan.
She argued that the previous NPP government had stabilized the economy, citing improvements in the banking sector and private sector growth.
Osei-Asare warned that Mahama’s policies resemble the high-spending approach that led to Ghana’s 2015 IMF bailout.
She also dismissed his call for a National Economic Dialogue, urging him to focus on execution rather than political consultations. She stressed the need for fiscal discipline and private sector-driven growth.
