Abdulai Mahmud has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bole District. He received 87 percent of the valid votes cast.
The confirmation occurred under tight security. Military, police, and immigration personnel were deployed a day before.
Some youth groups opposed Mahmud's confirmation. They held a press conference and protested last Friday. Despite this, his confirmation was largely successful.
Mahmud received 34 "Yes" votes and 4 "No" votes out of 39 total votes. In his acceptance speech, he thanked the president for his nomination. He also promised to drive development in the municipality.
Mahmud's vote count surpassed that of his predecessor, Veronica Alele Heming. She received 26 votes out of 38 in 2017.
Savannah regional minister Salisu Bia Wurbe urged assembly members to work closely with Mahmud. This collaboration is essential for the municipality's development.
