Bomfeh cautions public against over-reliance on audio and video recordings in public discourse

James Kwabena Bomfeh is the CEO of the Centre for Citizenship, Constitutional and Electoral Systems (CenCES). He has urged the public to be cautious about audio and video recordings in national discussions.

His comments come after CCTV footage surfaced. The footage allegedly shows a brief meeting between lawyer Thaddeus Sory and some Supreme Court judges. This incident took place at Santoku Restaurant in Accra’s Airport Residential Area. The short clip has sparked public speculation and media debate.

During an appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr. Bomfeh emphasized careful responses to such materials. He stated, “We need to be very careful about the emphasis we place on audio and video recordings.”

He recalled a similar situation from months ago involving an audio recording that made serious allegations against the Attorney-General. At that time, he chose to let the legal process unfold instead of rushing to judgment.

Mr. Bomfeh stressed that any unlawful conduct or statement should be addressed legally. “Let’s use the process of law rather than rushing to public opinion,” he said. “I stand by that decision.”

He also criticized those who quickly condemned others based on past recordings but changed their stance now. “Those who have shifted their position should explain what has changed,” he noted.

Mr. Bomfeh called for a cautious and responsible approach amid ongoing controversy. He urged everyone to allow the legal system to take its course before making conclusions.
