Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, a key member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), spoke candidly about the party's loss in the 2024 elections. He is proud of the NPP’s record and has no regrets.
During the party’s Thank You Tour, he addressed supporters passionately. He reflected on the ‘Break the 8’ agenda, which aimed for a third consecutive term.
“Tell yourself the truth,” he said. “You knew it has never happened before. You were trying to do the impossible.”
Despite the election results, Dr. Abdul-Hamid expressed no bitterness or blame. “Walaahi, I am not beating myself up,” he stated. “I understand it and I’m not upset.”
He assured supporters that the NPP is not defeated. “He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day,” he said. “We fought, we are here, and we are fighting again.”
Known for his straightforwardness, he distinguished himself from some colleagues in the party. “The general secretary and others are nice guys,” he noted. “But I am not a very nice guy.”
He emphasized that he feels no regret about anything that happened during his tenure.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid highlighted the NPP’s achievements while in government. He claimed that President John Mahama cannot match their performance.
“We did our best for this country,” he asserted. “Nothing John Mahama will do can compare to what we have done.”
He also criticized signs of instability under the current administration: “Look at what is going on in governance.”
“They appoint a chief executive one day and replace them the next.”
