CHRAJ Petitioned To Investigate GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi Over Dollar Gift To Agradaa

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has received a petition. The petition requests an investigation into Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). The concerns involve “unexplained wealth” and possible corruption.

Eric Dumenu Akatsi, a concerned citizen, submitted the petition. He referenced a viral video showing Mr. Gyamfi spraying U.S. dollar bills on evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, known as Agradaa. Mr. Akatsi described this act as a clear display of financial excess.

In his letter to CHRAJ Commissioner Joseph Whittal, Mr. Akatsi expressed concern about Mr. Gyamfi’s behavior. He argued that it does not meet the ethical standards expected of public officials.

The petition states that Mr. Gyamfi operates two private accounts at Consolidated Bank Ghana. One account is in cedis and another in dollars, with deposits exceeding GHS 100 million. These accounts reportedly did not have such large inflows before his appointment.

Mr. Akatsi cited Article 218(e) of the 1992 Constitution in his request for an investigation. This article mandates CHRAJ to investigate suspected corruption or abuse by public officials. He also mentioned Article 41(f), which encourages citizens to combat corruption and protect public property.

“The facts suggest there is probable cause for an investigation,” stated Mr. Akatsi. He emphasized that this case requires urgent and impartial scrutiny.
