CJ's Suspension: NDP foot soldiers disassociate themselves from NPP's May 5 'unlawful' protest

The grassroots members of the National Democratic Party (NDP) have withdrawn from a planned demonstration. This event is organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). It is scheduled for May 5, 2025, in Accra. The protest is against the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.

Owusu-Cobbiah Richard, the founder of NDP, signed a statement. The party's members expressed their commitment to upholding the law. They also emphasized respecting others' rights.

The statement called the demonstration "unnecessary and potentially harmful." NDP foot soldiers highlighted their values of good governance and accountability. They do not support unlawful activities and described the planned protest as "unlawful."

They urged all members to distance themselves from it. The statement concluded with "The Law Is the Law," stressing adherence to legal frameworks.

In addition, the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) has distanced itself from this demonstration. GUM’s General Secretary Anthony Ahinful issued a press release on April 26. He stated that GUM was not informed or consulted about the protest.

Ahinful noted that GUM did not give its consent for this event. The party emphasized its commitment to democracy and rule of law. They believe any disputes regarding the Chief Justice should be resolved legally.
