CJ’s Suspension: 0.1% can’t speak for GBA – Appiah Danquah

Andrew Appiah-Danquah, a private legal practitioner, criticized the Ghana Bar Association (GBA). He spoke about their recent statement opposing the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He called the GBA's move "preposterous" and unrepresentative of the legal community.

On Channel One TV's The Big Issue, he questioned the GBA’s legitimacy. He argued that their position does not reflect most members' views. "It’s preposterous and very dangerous for 0.1% of a group to decide," he said.

Appiah-Danquah acknowledged an earlier GBA statement. He found it more balanced and appropriate. This statement called for upholding the rule of law and promoting transparency—principles he supports.

"They came out with an earlier decision which I felt was perfect," he noted. He emphasized that a call for rule of law is essential for political culture. He also agreed with the need for transparency.

However, Appiah-Danquah stressed that a small group's stance should not represent all members. "It is preposterous for 0.1% to take a decision and say we will all be bound by it," he stated.
