CJ’s suspension: GBA’s request defies Supreme Court rulings – Edudzi

Edudzi Tamakloe, the Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, has criticized the Ghana Bar Association (GBA). He disagrees with their demand for President John Dramani Mahama to revoke Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's suspension.

On April 26, the GBA called the suspension unconstitutional and without legal basis. They argued that the President’s decision was flawed under Article 146(10) of the Constitution. They noted there was no published instrument guiding presidential discretion as required by Article 296.

In an interview on Channel One TV's The Point of View, Tamakloe responded to the GBA's statement. He said it offends the 1992 Constitution and undermines Supreme Court decisions.

Tamakloe praised President Mahama for his transparent and constitutional approach. He stated that Mahama has shown a high level of fairness required by the Constitution.

The President suspended Chief Justice Torkornoo on April 22. This followed a prima facie case against her from private citizen Daniel Ofori and others. A five-member committee has been formed to investigate this matter.
