Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, may review the Supreme Court's ruling. This is regarding the case for removing Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. The Supreme Court dismissed his application on May 6. The decision was made by a narrow 3-2 majority.
Acting Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie led the majority ruling. Justices Yonny Kulendi and Amadu Tanko supported this decision. Justices Henrietta Mensah Bonsu and Ernest Gaewu disagreed with the majority. The court will release its full reasoning on May 21, 2025.
Assafuah spoke to Channel One Newsroom about the ruling. He acknowledged that he would wait for the detailed reasoning before deciding his next steps. However, he indicated that a review might be possible.
He stated, “The Supreme Court says that on May 21, their reasoning will be available.” He plans to assess whether it is convincing or not. If he finds it unconvincing, he may file for a review.
Assafuah noted some support within the Supreme Court for his position. Two judges agreed with his arguments during the ruling process. This gives him hope to return to the Supreme Court in the future.
